Lena Steel Chestplate And The Roots Of The Amazon Myth
The Amazonians are a legendary society of women that appear in Greek mythologies such as Argonuatica, Iliad, and Labours of Hercules. In these texts, they are presented as the equal of men in hunting, riding and combat. The tales also tell of how they would kill or return (to the father) any male born to them and only deal with men briefly in order to conceive. From what is understood of Greek antiquity, theses warrior women were found on the edges of the known world. Some believe the area referred to may have been on the southern shores of the modern-day Black Sea, others place them in Asia Minor or even on the Ponti-Caspian Steppe. Wherever their origin, there was no doubt among the average Greek citizen that the Amazonians were either a real threat, waiting at the edge of civilisation or had been a historical reality. This Lena Steel Chestplate is just the kind of armor these legendary warriors are often depicted as wearing
