Our LARP Long Sword is a spectacular Gothic weapon that mixes Nordic, Germanic and High Medieval design for a terrifying final result. It is birthed from the union of legendary German roleplay maker Mytholon and expert LARP sword-maker Hammerkunst (‘The Art of the Hammer’). Its unique riveted design would match brilliantly with our riveted steel fantasy armor, such as our Vladimir plate armor set.

Melding the Fantasy and the Historical

The blade of our LARP Long Sword is a monster. It is fully 30 inches in length, matching a historical knightly arming sword in scale. The broad blade has near-parallel edges and a shallow point, taking inspiration from the brutal Type XIII Crusader swords of the 13th century: these flat-bladed cuttings weapons were designed to simply smash through maille, cloth and leather with brute force. Our LARP Long Sword’s blade features a distinctive raised double-fuller, and has simulated edges all the way down to the forte of the blade.

The sword’s hilt is where this weapon veers into a wild flight of heavy metal fantasy. The hilt is textured and colored in such a way that it looks like pitted, battle-damaged wrought iron. The quillons are viciously spiked and are designed to look like they have been forged from multiple riveted parts. The quillon block is an enormous diamond-shaped riveted beast, and it extends forward to create a spectacular interwoven langet (blade support). The grip has the appearance of a loosely wrapped leather strip. The pommel is a large iron-like ring, evoking a dungeon door-handle – or worse, a manacle…

A Blade Made for the Roleplay Battlefield

Legendary German LARP manufacturer Mytholon have taken every care to build a roleplay-friendly, thoroughly usable and safe weapon whilst building our LARP Long Sword. The weapon has a core made from robust glass fibre – this is the gold standard for resilient contact roleplay weaponry. Hammerkunst’s master makers cover the core with a cast polyurethane foam to create the sword blade. This means it is completely latex-free – although it is harder and a little less forgiving than a latex blade, it is far more rugged and requires less careful care. Hammerkunst pride themselves on thinking through every aspect of their weapons, and, unlike many LARP weapons designed wholly for aesthetic appeal, the LARP Long Sword is a thin blade designed to handle like a proper historical medieval sword: it is light, accurate and properly balanced.
